Geoff Button

Graduate Therapist Intern

All PHC clinicians are highly trained and able to treat our clients that are experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions and/or mood disorders. Please continue to explore our bios if you require a more specialized treatment plan.

Geoff is a graduate intern with Pure Health Center. Prior to this transition, he worked for years in the Chicago theater community as an actor, director, casting director, and teacher. In that role, he worked with performers and artists to give them tools to help them get out of their own way and do their best work. That same philosophy shapes how he works with clients as he helps them focus on what they want, how they’re trying to get it, and what obstacles are standing in their way.

Geoff is grounded, empathetic, and authentic, with particular interest in working with couples, men navigating midlife transitions, and individuals managing questions of meaning, life direction, and perfectionism. He has a growing clinical interest in sports and performance psychology, with a specific perspective on how those same challenges also apply to performing artists.

His therapeutic approach draws on Reality Therapy, Existential Therapy, and Psychodynamics, with attention to clients’ present-day choices and longstanding patterns. He believes it’s natural and healthy to look at your life and question the choices you’ve made and are making, and to open yourself to the possibility of change.

Geoff is pursuing his master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northeastern Illinois University, holds a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University, and an MFA in Theater Directing from Northwestern University. In addition to his graduate studies, he also works in alumni relations at Northwestern. Outside of his clinical work, Geoff does strength training and vinyasa yoga, obsesses about fantasy football and scary movies, and enjoys his time with his wife, daughter, and French Bulldogs, Clarence and Violet.
