Missy Williams

Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor

Missy believes that deepening our connection to the self, others, and the world at large allows us to strengthen our insight, and create meaningful change.

Missy works with children, adolescents, families, and adults.

In working with adults, Missy has experience in treating trauma, navigating life transitions, and making sense of the past to better understand the present.

Missy specializes in treating youth presenting with anxiety, depression, social-emotional deficits, ADHD, low self-esteem, and interpersonal challenges. She is also a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP). Missy has trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Skills for Psychological Recovery (SPR) and Psychological First Aid, Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), and Solution Focused Play Therapy (SF-PT).

Missy earned her Master of Arts degree in Counseling at Northwestern University. She has worked in various clinical settings including The Family Institute at Northwestern. Further, Missy’s training has also offered her a background in evidenced-based treatments like CBT, DBT, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction.

Missy earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Elon University, where her passion for empowering the lives of children was ignited. She believes that the systems within which the child exists--such as school, home, and community--play a dominant role in their development. Missy believes culture, values, and a family’s intergenerational trauma are valuable aspects to explore in treatment.

Missy’s clinical style is warm, empathic, authentic, and playful. She excels in building positive relationships with her clients, and introduces therapeutic tools to promote ongoing growth.

As a Virginia native, Missy enjoys spending her free time with family and loved ones, cooking, playing guitar and listening to music, traveling, running, and playing tennis.
